A Brief History

Wellington Amateurs First Team currently play in the West Midlands Regional League Division One having gained promotion as Champions last season.

Wellington Amateurs were formed in 1950 as Old Wellingtonians by former pupils of Wellington Grammar School. The change to the current name came about when the Headmaster of the School discovered there were members of the club who were not former pupils.

The decision was taken to name the club after the town but with the addition of Amateur to distinguish the club from Wellington Town FC.

The club started its days playing in the Wellington League and after 31 years they joined the Shropshire County Football League in 1981. The club completed a League and Cup double winning the First Division Title and Cup. In 1983 the club one the first of it's 2 League titles.

In 2006/07 the club narrowly finished second in the league but were able to apply for promotion to the West Midlands Regional League.

From the 2008/09 season the club will be entering 6 teams over 3 leagues
